Score: 2 out of 5 What stops a mafia hit-man given evil powers from reaching total awesomeness? Apparently bad graphics, poor game play elements and an sensitivity overhaul. Half the graphics: There are some areas of the game where the graphics really shine out. The subway station is beautifully designed. But when you step outside, buildings and the items in the other dimension seem like you are surrounded by 2D card boards. There are even some elements in the subway station that seem poorly designed. The problem is that those poor graphics are contagious and spoil the other things that look good. Also, the voice work is not in sync with the lip movement. Actually its not in sync at all!
The Gameplay: The first 5-7 minutes of the gameplay are simply outstanding. Unfortunately it goes all downhill from there. The Darkness is an FPS and the aiming tends to seem very sluggish. The autoaim does not work everytime, but when it does it equals an easy headshot even from a far distance. Shooting feels very uneven and can be frustrating at times. Most of your bullets wont be reserved for cops, hitmen out to get your or even deamons, instead most of your bullets will be used for taking lights out. The game takes the title quite literally, in that you only get access to your powers when its dark. Sounds like a cool concept except for the fact that there are a lot of lights that need to be taken out. But the lights come in different shapes and sizes so at least they provided variety to mix things up. The weapons in the game do not provide much difference in gameplay experience. You will end up using the pistols most of the time. You do get some cool darkness powers near the end of the game but they use up most of the dark energy and require you to hide in the dark for a bit to power up. Games rely on strong powers to increase the momentum in the action, having to wait somewhere after using your dark powers gets annoying.
Gone sensitive: After I had finished the game, I was looking over the orginal comics that I had unlocked. In the original comics the person you play seemed pretty bad ass with some quality dialogue. He had long hair but it was all gel'd backwards (in the game it flows covers his eyes and makes him look more sensitive). I have no idea why they went with the change in character as I believe the original would have been a lot more enjoyable and fitting to the game. Final word: With all the FPS out there, they really should not be developing FPS games that feel only half finished. Avoid this one unless you are fanboy.
