Shallow gameplay elements and a short campaign plague the ultimate killing machine.

Presentation:

The developers have done a very good job in the game’s presentation. The constant swaging camera and good use of sound in the game do a great job of conveying the intensity Jason Bourne faces. Running and engaging in hand to hand combat make the camera swag more rapidly. It mimics the movies successfully and hardly feels that it obscures the player’s view.

The graphics are also very well polished. You can feel the bullets swishing past you as you try to make a run. As you engage in hand to hand combat your body, particularly the face, gets dented and bloodier at the areas Jason gets hit.

The story feels like a rollercoaster as the developers don’t spend enough time explaining or building it up. As a result people that have not watched movies will not realize the significance of some action sequences or specific opponents.

Combat:

As is common in most games involving guns, this game too deploys a cover system. Although it is not as good as that of Gears of War, it does do a good job and does not feel useless. Everything in the environment seems destructible. As you shoot bullets you can see the splinters fall of doors and the shattering of glass. This again helps to build intensity in the environment.

It is the hand to hand combat where the game disappoints. You have two attacks: a strong one and a weaker but faster attack. Any combination of the two results in various combos. As you build up momentum you can perform a take-down. A take-down is a strong attack that either utilizes objects in the environment or has Jason performing a dangerous combo. Although this is fun at first, it feels shallow and gets repetitive. You can not choose which objects to use; all you can do is perform a take-down near an object and hope Jason uses that object. It is hard to tell whether using different objects matter anyway.

Most boss battles are fought with your bare hands. Bosses have a lot more health. With the simple two punch system it gets very repetitive. In addition some bosses block all your moves and perform successful counters. At those times players are restricted to using cheap tactics.

Run and Gun:

By far the gameplay element that shined for us were the timed sequences. These required you to press specific buttons when they popped up in the screen and also had bits of combat involved.

Too little:

The campaign lasts about 5 hours. Even with those few hours the game felt repetitive. The game could certainly have used more run and gun sequences along with fewer hand to hand combat elements. It is unfortunate as the game’s presentation was solid.

Final Word:

The game is a rental at best. The most loyal Bourne fans should check out the demo, the rest of the game just feels stretched and repetitive.
