We have received official word from Microsoft about the price changes for the Xbox 360 in Canada. These will be effective from August 28 2009. The Xbox 360 Elite will drop down to $329. The Xbox 360 Pro will drop down to $279. The Xbox 360 Arcade has increased in price to $229 For a limited time, the Xbox 360 Elite will be bundled with Halo 3 and a wireless Network Adapter. The bundle will cost $329. This bundle is a hot deal for anyone considering buying the Xbox 360 in Canada. That is considering the fact that wireless network adapter costs $99 by itself. In addition Halo 3 is one of the best multiplayer games in the platform. Halo 3 is the rare FPS that allows 4 players locally to play with others online. However the prices are different from the USA. In USA the Xbox 360 Elite will sell for $300, Pro for $250 and the Arcade for $200. We have contacted Microsoft in Canada to enquire about the price discrepancies and the reasoning behind the increase in price for the Xbox 360 Arcade. Rumour has it that Microsoft will be discontinuing the Pro Console. Considering that Elite will be completing with the PS3 slim, it is interesting to note this will be the first time that the Xbox 360 will not be cheaper than a PS3. Considering the former lacks the Blu-Ray drive it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Edit: In the press release Microsoft said that the Pro Console will be $279 "while supplies last." This would confrim that the Xbox 360 Pro is indeed being discontinued. |
