Hancock

Score: F

Genre: Action Comedy

What was supposed to be super-hero movie that differentiated itself from all others, actually turns into a generic super-hero movie fairly quickly.

Will Smith plays Hancock, a lazy and clumsy super hero that carelessly seems to do more harm than good when trying to help out. And he does not care what other people think about him. I expected it to do for super-hero movies what Kung Fu Panda did for martial arts movies. Unfortunately this aspect only lasts a while and Hancock is shown to be sensitive and cares about what other people think about him. He starts to adjust in order to clean up his act and become accepted by the people. In other words it does the same thing what all other super-hero movies do. Except it is a lot worse in Hancock's case because the movie is not backed by numerous comics and has trouble reaching any depth in its story. What it becomes is a plain vanilla generic super-hero movie. The worst part is that the best jokes were included in the trailer. I feel cheated and ripped off!

Final Word: Hancock had a good concept in which it tried to differentiate itself but in the end it becomes a generic cliche super hero movie. Watch the trailer to see the best parts of the movie.

I actually have to disagree with the review. I actually found it to be quite a
good popcorn summer flick and I did like the twist (which I am sure many people
did not like). The effects were good, action sequences were OK. I guess I didn't
feel cheated as I never saw any trailer for the movie. I personally would give
it a B (only because it is cliche, but hey, I enjoyed it)

But that is the thing, here in Canada, it seemed that they showed the trailer
constantly before every movie that came a month or 2 before Hancock. They also
dumped a lot of ads in TV especially during the NBA. The jokes tend to become
less funny when you watch them the 100th time.
