Quantum of Solace Review

 Genre: Action / Spy
This direct sequel to Casino Royale feels more tame and a step down compared to its predecessor.

So here is how it goes down, the first 10 minutes are absolutely stunning. The last 10 minutes is the mandatory showdown that feels pretty ordinary. Everything in between is plot development for the next one. This is where it gets boring as it only has small bits of action in the meat of it.

Bourne, James Bourne is what it sort of feels like. There is more hand to hand combat and for a period of time Bond is being chased by special agents. It tries to be Bourne but it just is not as good. There are no fancy gadgets or a tricked out car. The only car chase occurs at the start. It would seem that the director was impressed by Bourne and wanted to make a different type of Bond, however that sort of betrays what Bond is known for. Different would have been fine, but it is not even the good different.

Advertisement for the next Bond: Quantum of Solace starts right after Casino Royale and hints at a large and very promising plot. However Quantum of Solace only deals with a small amount of it and it feels that they used this movie to build up for the next one. I went to watch a movie but left unsatisfied as this one just did not feel complete.

One of the few good things is Bond has become pretty bad ass and Daniel Craig is growing into the role quite well.

Final Word: Not shaken, not satisfied.
