Genre: Action/ Superhero/ Crime Christian Bale and Heath Ledger co-star the best Batman (if not superhero) movie to date.
This is a Batman movie like no other. A Batman movie that would deserve an Oscar nomination(s). It might be an exaggeration since I’m still hyped up about the movie, but this movie has the chance of being the best I have ever seen in my life. I wanted to give it an A+ easy, but our respectful webmaster told me that this is not allowed on his website. So, I had to stay with the A, which I thought was too little for such a movie. “Why so serious?” One of many memorable quotes the Joker (played by Heath Ledger) used in the newest Batman release “The Dark Knight”. It might be the most memorable. To me, it also served as a description of the movie: it was serious. It was dark. It was sad. When the movie’s 2hrs and 32 mins were over, people were left deep in thought. They were in shock. But still there was so much action that viewers were always pushed off the edge of your seat. Unlike other feel-good Batman productions that show the overwhelmingly clever hero outsmarting his villain enemies, this was a movie where the villain seemed too smart even for Batman to handle. And to me, that was the key to the movie’s success: the Joker. “The Dark Knight’s” Joker achieved what so called bad guys could never achieve in any other movie with someone in a bat suit playing a role: He was an actual criminal. An offender who would do anything he’s capable of to reach his goals. Speaking of his goals, even those looked like the twisted fantasies of psycho-killers. The Joker is a character that didn’t only horrify the city of Gotham, but also horrified us (the audience). Christian Bale was great in that movie: He was cute (a girl’s opinion), and he presented his role well (emotionally and physically); however, this was the Joker’s movie, not Batman’s. The Bad: I guess nothing is perfect. And as much as I loved “The Dark Knight”, there were still a couple of things that I didn’t like. First of all, what’s up with Batman’s hoarse voice?! Bruce Wayne had a normal voice, but then when he became Batman, he swallowed a big frog or something that changed his tone, making him hard to understand at times. And second, I think Maggie Gyllenhaal was an upgrade from Katie Holmes; however, it wasn’t that big an upgrade. Mostly, why was she smiling throughout the movie? It was a sad movie, it was dark, and she couldn’t wipe that smile off her face, which totally annoyed me. Final word: I can only say that this movie is a must see. Whether you’re looking for a regular superhero movie, are more interested in crime movies, or are looking for some action on the big screen, “The Dark Knight” is for you. |
