With exception to the last few chapters, the sixth book of the Harry Potter series does not have as many plot twists or character developments. The movie attempts to make up for this by focusing on the romantic adventures of the young wizard trios.
Lost in Translation: In the process of giving substance to the movie, there is little importance and time given to the major arc of the 6th book: The Half Blood Prince (HBL). The theme of the novel was based on development for the character by steadily describing the many adventures and successes of the HBL. The novel successfully created an aura of great curiosity for the mystery of the HBL. The movie however does not even attempt to create such an aura as it gives too little time to the HBL.
Something to look forward to: For those that have not yet read the final instalment of the Harry Potter books, you should know that there is a lot of action and chaos in the grand finale. This is why it was great to see that the special effects have finally come to par with the best in the movie industry. If the director can successfully re-create the action scenes on the silver screen, we should be able to witness an epic finale.
The Final Word: At the end of the day with the movie focusing more on the romantic lives of the young wizards, the movie felt shallow as it failed to have much substance in the form of advancement of the story line.
