| Yet another movie franchise is successfully revived with the latest Star Trek film that has it all: action, romance, plot twists aplenty, an updated Enterprise, and even a cameo from Mr. Spock. |

The latest Star Trek film, unofficially dubbed Star Trek 0, follows the origins of the crew of the Enterprise as we know them in the first TV series. It follows the early days of Spock, Kirk, McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Checkov, and Uhura from their early days until their assignment onboard the Enterprise and their adventures from there on. Right from the start the movie features some dazzling action sequences and stunts, an updated Star Fleet, and even a cameo from Leonard Nemoy himself. Strong all round performances from the key cast members and excellent direction complete the film. All in all the movie updated and reinvented the Star Trek franchise fairly successfully given the pressure without alienating its core audience, and winning several new fans along the way. Unfortunately, the movie was a little too Spock and Kirk-centric leaving little for the other characters. Considering that it was almost one hour and forty five minutes a little more time could’ve been devoted to plot and character development and exploring the relationships between several of the characters. However, that isn’t a major issue since the script was solid, the acting spot on, and the groundwork laid for future films to go into more detail. |
