Genre: Action

Directed By: Michael Bay

A fantastic action film with even more lifelike and new transformers, stunning fight sequences and lots of Megan Fox to go around, but not much else.

Synopsis:

After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons, and has decided to return to Earth with more force. The Autobots are hunting down whats left of the Decepticons, only to find out that a fragment of the All Spark has been stolen from a military base and Megatron has been awakened. Now Megatron is back seeking revenge and with Starscream and more Decepticon reinforcements on the way, the Autobots with reinforcements of their own, may have more to deal with then meets the eye.

Consensus:

If you’re looking for a good action film, Revenge of the Fallen is hard to beat. You’ve got new and cool transformers, updated graphics, superb action sequences leading to a thrilling conclusion. And no, we haven’t forgotten about Megan Fox. In fact, it was pretty hard to with her plastered all over a 20 foot screen. Michael Bay teamed up with Steven Spielberg to really add something extra to this one and it worked. While sequels are rarely as good as their predecessors, and Revenge of the Fallen holds true to form, it does give Transformers a run for its money.

The movie picks up several years after the first one left off. Sam Witwiky is on his way to university and entering a new phase in his relationship with Mikaela. The Autobots have effectively split up into two groups. Bumblebee stays as Sam's protector and guardian, and his ride. While Optimus Prime leads the rest of the Autobots, as well as some great new ones, on a hunt for the remaining Decepticons. The Autobots live and work with members of the US Army that defeated Megatron in the first movie in secret base, and effectively fly all over the world hunting Decepticons secretly. Unfortunately, it seems that never happens as the destruction that ensues leads to cover ups, conspiracy theories, and the eventual political backlash.

It is here that the Decepticons plan their revenge attack. But it is not just the Autobots that have new Transformers, the Decepticons have several new additions too. Strangely enough, many of the new Decepticons look like they walked off other movie sets. For example, the Decepticon that hacks the US military's satellites to find Megatron has tentacle like protrusions that look like they came from the liquid metal T-1000 in Terminator 2. Then there’s the cyborg that attacks Sam in his dorm. Somehow, Decepticons figured out a way to create humanoid looking robots with human flesh, which look eerily like the robots in Battlestar Galactica and Terminator Salvation. One final oddity, apparently the Decepticons have cyborg exo-skeletons, as seen when Bumblebee effectively skins a tiger Decepticon. With the movie moving at a brisk pace, questions as to how these cyborgs were formed, or what the composition of the Transformers is remain unanswered.

Moreover, the film explores Transformer history before Megatron and Prime and it is about at this point that things start going wrong. Too often, pieces of the plot feel made up to keep the movie going or add action sequences. The story doesn’t flow, or blend into the first movie and starts getting pretty predictable, and at times, quite cliché. While there is character development with Prime and Sam and Mikaela, it doesn’t seem like its enough to undo the plot gaps. Michael Bay even threw in some incredible plot twists, but as the movie progresses it becomes a little obvious how everything will turn out.

All in all, a thoroughly entertaining action movie, but that’s all that it will be.

Oh come on man, I think this movie was crap. The actions scenes were nothing but chaos and with the huge robots a lot of it didn\'t make sense. Plus, the story line was a big loss. Huge disappointment

But you have to admit that the fight in the forest where optimus was kicking ass was one of the best action sequences in recent memory.
