Looking at the games being released these days it feels as if the majority of the games are sequels or remakes. The advances in technology are a great reason to release remakes (not to mention the cashing in on nostalgia craved people like us!) We have compiled a list of game series that we would love to see again:

1) No One Lives Forever (FPS)

This series is set around the 1960s and players play the role of a spy. The series can be best described as the product of the Austin Powers universe shagging that of James Bond’s. Beautiful aesthetic design, smooth controls, brilliant AI, diverse environments and thrilling fights makes this a game that I rate as high as Half Life 2. The game successfully sets itself apart from others by being humorous that is strongly supported with a great dialogue and story. Using lipstick bombs, fighting katana wielding ninjas and chasing mimes on a tiny tricycle in the alleys of India is all in a days work for Cate Archer. Heck, this would even make a great movie.

2) Shenmue (RPG / Fighter)

In an industry of RPGs that involve characters changing the whole world, Shenmue does the exact opposite. The game beautifully integrates RPG elements with strong fighting controls borrowed from Virtual Fighter. Players feel like a single person in a truly living world of many, trying to chase down his father’s murderer. Players have the choice of working ordinary jobs, taking part in underground fights or gambling in order to pay the rent. All the while learning martial arts from various experts and gathering clues to track down the main boss. Although the translated dialogue sounds cheesy at times, the overall story is superb. Unfortunately Microsoft may have killed the series by making it their exclusive.

3) Any games made by Tim Schafer

We would be delighted to see sequels of any games made by Tim Shafer. Whether it be solving puzzles in Monkey Island, going through people’s minds in Psychonauts or sorting out the after life in Grim Fandango; the worlds created by Shafer have been unique and a whole lot of fun.

4) Death Rally

This is the true underground racer that makes the NFS underground series look like an innocent new born (although what doesn’t). This is a Dos game where players view the race from a top down view. New vehicles can be bought and have their armour and wheels upgraded. But the true upgrades come from an underground agent that provides boosts and land mines. Players can also attempt to sabotage their toughest opponent before a race. Races are won by actually reaching the finish line first or destroying their opponents’ car.

This is such an awesome game that I would heavily suggest it be developed as an XBLA and PSN title. Just polish the graphics, insert some modern music and splashy effects and you have a true winner. It’s the perfect game for the XBLA and PSN that would truly shine with league of human players.

5) Syndicate

Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to have their own crew of bad ass cyborgs at their disposal. Despite being an awesome concept, this was a great game. Players had to balance funds by upgrading their army and setting enough aside to research in weaponry or cyborg upgrades. The futuristic setting ensures there are plenty of lasers to pewpew. Peter Molyneux mentioned he was working on a game that some people may be familiar with. It would totally rock if this was it.

Other noteworthy mentions:

Armed & Dangerous: A hilarious script had me wanting to finish the missions just to get to the next cut-scene. A British robot obsessed with tea, a mole rat and robots obsessed with saving every last flower are among other interesting characters that give the game a unique feeling. Make sure to youtube some of the cutscenes from the game to check it out. Did I mention a gun that shoots land sharks?

Jade Empire: One of Bioware’s finest games. Martial arts and melee combat beautifully integrated with mythology and RPG elements. Add in a great story and another great living video game universe was created.

Destruction Derby: Dozens of cars thrown into a pit with the object of being the last man surviving. Its time the series got an upgrade with better looking graphics, explosions and a more ‘realistic’ physics engine.

Legacy of Kain: This vampire tale is filled with a large number of plot twists, important sub plots and dozens of characters significant to the story that it would make Hideo Kojima proud. The latest instalment, Legacy of Kain, had players take control of two characters that simultaneously (at the same time) set out in a journey and visited the same areas of the world but at two different time periods (by use of time travel). It got weirder as one of them kept coming across paintings that predicted the future. Oho yeah!

We want to hear from you, what are the games not in development, that you would love to see again?
